DJI Mavic Mini Review - In 2017, the world was rocked by the DJI Spark, a drone weighing 300 grams whose capabilities are no less than drones with twice the dimensions. Honestly, it's hard to imagine a drone that's smaller but more capable than the Spark, but that's what DJI was trying to prove.
They have just announced the Mavic Mini, the very small and very light drone they have built so far. It was basically not that different in size from the Spark, however all four of its arms could be pulled in, and in this position the Mavic Mini was literally the size of an aged man's palm.
The Mavic Mini weighs only 249 grams. As light as this drone is, DJI claims it will automatically be perceived as comfortable by regulators in many countries, who often set a weight of 250 grams as the maximum limit for drones that don't require special permits at all.
But what is very special is how the Mavic Mini can be more capable than the Spark. In the camera zone, for example, the Mavic Mini packs a 1/2, 3-inch CMOS sensor with 12 megapixel resolution that is capable of recording 2, 7K 30 fps or 1080p 60 fps video. Compare this to the Spark's camera, which has video recording options limited to 1080p 30 fps.
The recording results are also determined to be softer, because the camera is mounted on a 3- axis gimbal, again superior to Spark's 2- axis. Also impressive is that it consumes its energy so effectively; one charge is enough to air for 30 minutes.
Not only are the video recordings normal, but the Mavic Mini's air skills are also claimed to be very precise thanks to the arrival of a series of sensors as well as GPS. While on the air, the communication between the drone and the remote control can continue for up to 4 km, as can the video transmission.
DJI has no memory of confirming that the Mavic Mini doesn't seem complicated for ordinary consumers. Its partner app, DJI Fly, packs content to guide new users, preparing them to start learning how to operate in a Position (P) fashion that includes several basic uses.
When they are already advanced, they can choose Sport (S) fashion to optimize the Mavic Mini's abilities, or CineSmooth (C) fashion for those who want to produce cinematic works. Several automatic maneuvers (QuickShots) also exist and can be accessed in just a few touches.
